Mathews Odipo, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on 10th April 2026 while on the way to Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital (KUTRRH) after battling stage four lung cancer.

Born and raised in Alego Nyajuok, Mathews was a man of discipline, humility, and strong family values. He spent part of his early childhood in Uganda with his parents from 1953 to 1959 before returning to continue his education in Nyajuok up to CPE level. From a young age, he was known for his calm spirit, kindness, and deep sense of responsibility.

He was a devoted family man who greatly supported his siblings and extended family, helping many with education, training, and employment opportunities. His generosity, protection, and love created lasting memories for those around him.

In 1973, he married his first wife, Alice Akinyi Odipo (Nyamus), and they shared 53 years of marriage, blessed with 12 children. In 1984, he married his second wife, Eunice Atieno Odipo, and they were blessed with 5 children, sharing 42 years of partnership. Altogether, he was a proud father of 17 children and a loving grandfather of 27 grandchildren.

Mathews was a hardworking and skilled tailor and pattern designer. He loved politics, was a passionate supporter of Arsenal FC and Gor Mahia, and took pride in preserving and sharing Luo culture and traditions. His wisdom, storytelling, and cheerful generosity touched many lives.

Mathews will be remembered for his quiet strength, honesty, kindness, and unwavering dedication to family. His legacy lives on in the values he instilled and the lives he uplifted.

May his soul rest in eternal peace.
