Celebrating the Pioneer Spirit of Mama Rosebella Alila Okoth
It is with profound sorrow that the family of Mama Rosebella Alila Okoth (popularly known as ‘Mama Balozi’) announces her passing on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at her residence in Milimani Estate, Kisumu. She was 79.
Mama Alila was a formidable businesswoman and a true pioneer. Starting with a small stall in the 1970s, she grew her enterprise into a major wholesale and retail business, a reputable name in agro-processing and grain distribution across Nyanza and Western Kenya. She was a key figure in the Kisumu Business Community, known for her sharp negotiation skills, generosity, and unwavering faith. Her legacy is a testament to hard work and resilience.
She is survived by her four children: Thomas, Jane, Mark, and Veronica, and twelve grandchildren.
Requiem prayers are being held at the family home. There will be a fundraising event at the Mendoza Restaurant, Kisumu, on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at 2:00 PM. The final journey will begin on Friday, October 24, 2025, with the body being interred at her ancestral home in Alego Usonga, Siaya County, on Saturday, October 25, 2025.
